The demand increases of the past 10 years have largely been met by implementing leakage reduction measures and by expanding the supply capability of existing Dublin Region sources. Projected demand increases from 2008 to 2016 will be met by further development of the existing water supply sources to their sustainable limits and by further reducing leakage levels through network rehabilitation initiatives anticipated to cost in excess of €120 million over the next five years.

Recent indications from the Government would indicated the likely introduction of a water pricing policy that encourages the responsible use of water e.g. Domestic metering/charging.

These pro-active water conservation activities will help to defer the timing of supply requirements from a new source. There will come a point, however, where demand from further population increases and associated economic activity, will outstrip the capability of the existing supply sources to meet that demand. It is anticipated that in the Dublin Region this point will be reached by approximately 2016. For more information on this please click here
